Introduction to Rhetoric saw the establishment of Chinese rhetoric as an independent discipline.Since the 1980s,contemporary rhetoric has been grounded in interactive,real-world discourse activities,leading to a theoretical breakthrough in the discourse perspective of rhetoric.This transition embodies many improvements such as the orientation of research subjects towards discourse,theoretical construction based on discourse,discourse strategies used as rhetorical devices,and discourse effects of rhetorical devices.Also,the shift reflects the application of domain-specific discourse,addressing societal needs for discourse application,and promoting social progress.Substantial achievements have been made in areas like national and institutional image rhetoric,domain-specific linguistic actions,and speech acts.Thus change to discourse in contemporary rhetoric has made contemporary rhetoric more scientific and practical.
