Based on the theory of semantic grammar,this paper defines the semantic function of the adverb luxu(陆续)as"to connect disordered plural events in sequence",by locating luxu's sentential distribution accurately and verifying the semantic features of its cooccurrence components both positively and negatively.First,it summarizes the major problems in previous studies,such as paraphrasing widely,expressing obscurely,verifying deficiently,etc.Second,it locates and concludes the sentence distributional rule in order to reveal the objective,factive and descriptive manner meaning of luxu.Third,it analyzes and extracts respectively the requirement of luxu's distributional meaning and continuity manner:[+plural]argument structure and[+eventive]predicate structure.Finally,by means of co-occurrence quantificational markers,this paper illustrates and verifies that[+successive,+time-entropic]are the two semantic elements which form luxu's continuity manner.The former is the sufficient condition of formation of distributional meaning and telic predicate,while the latter is the essential feature to highlight luxu's distinctive meaning.
