This paper takes intermediate-level learners of Chinese as a second language as the subjects,and conducts an em-pirical study on the applicability of the morpheme method and the context method in L2 Chinese synonym acquisition.The re-sults show that the morpheme method and the context method are relatively suitable for the basic and intermediate acquisition tasks such as semantic priming and word meaning understanding of clustering synonyms,but their applicability to advanced level acquisition tasks such as word sense discrimination is significantly insufficient.The study finds that the conventional mor-pheme method and the conventional context method both focus more on the individual processing of words,while the word sense discrimination task requires further secondary processing of the relationship among clustering synonyms.With consider-ation of the findings,this paper proposes that on the basis of the conventional morpheme method,the interactive analysis of"morpheme-word"among clustering synonyms should be further increased,and on the basis of the conventional context meth-od,differential contexts among clustering synonyms should be further presented.
