The phrase"X de(得)lihai(厉害)"is a common expression of intensity in our daily life and is also a challeng-ing aspect of international Chinese language teaching.This paper takes the theory of semantic grammar as a guide and uses the survey results from CCL(Corpus of Contemporary Chinese)as a benchmark.Starting from the perspective of syntactic charac-teristics,we discuss the semantic features and types of"X"and the semantic characteristics of the overall structure.The re-search finds that the predicate"X"in"X de lihai"is semantically restricted by quantity segment,abnormity and sensibility,and the semantic types of"X"include physical[+discomfort],psychological and behavioral[+unease],and the[+deteriora-tion]of events or objects.It further extracts the meaning"beyond the limit of endurance"and the multidimensional semantic representation of"X de lihai".
