Intelligent Driving and Enterprise Green Innovation:A Quasi-Natural Experiment Based on the National Artificial Intelligence Pilot Zone
In the context of addressing global climate change and promoting high-quality economic development, whether the new generation of information technology, with artificial intelligence as the core, can drive comprehensive green transformation and achieve the"dual carbon"goals has become an important issue in national development strategy. This dissertation leverages the establishment of the National New Generation Artificial Intelligence Innovation and Development Pilot Zone as a quasi-natural experiment, using data from A-share listed companies from 2014 to 2022,and employing a staggered DID approach to evaluate the impact of the artificial intelligence pilot zone on the green innovation of enterprises and its underlying mechanism. The findings reveal that the establishment of the artificial intelligence pilot area has effectively fostered green innovation among enterprises in the pilot area, and this conclusion is still valid across a series of robustness checks.Mechanism analysis indicates that the artificial intelligence pilot zone can not only optimize the external environment for enterprise green innovation by enhancing corporate social trust, increasing government environmental protection subsidies, and strengthening R&D cooperation among enterprises, but also improve the internal operations by improving enterprise resource allocation efficiency, heightening uncertainty perception of enterprises and boosting R&D investment,so as to form incentives for enterprises to pursue green innovation and development.A heterogeneity analysis shows that this enhancement effect is more significant under specific conditions:regions with lower environmental regulation intensity, industries with higher market competition, larger enterprise, and enterprises led by management with an environmental protection background. In addition, the artificial intelligence pilot zone has been shown to significantly promote green innovation of enterprises in terms of both quantity and quality. This dissertation addresses the important question of whether establishing artificial intelligence pilot areas can promote green innovation of enterprises, and provides empirical evidence and policy reference to accelerate the integration and development of artificial intelligence and green innovation in China.
