With the rapid advancement of the digital economy, disparities in development levels and spatial po-larization among regions have emerged as important subjects requiring urgent study.Utilizing digital economy index data from 30 provinces in China from 2017 to 2022,this study employed methods of high-low grouping and regional grouping to analyze the spatial patterns and evolutionary trends of the digital economy.Key findings include:1.The development level of the digital economy exhibited a fluctuating upward trend between 2017 and 2022,indicat-ing an overall improvement in digital economy levels over time.2.When grouping according to high and low devel-opment levels of the digital economy, the polarization index showed a downward trend, suggesting that the digital economy is gradually moving towards more balanced development across regions.3.When grouping regions into northern and southern categories, the polarization indices displayed a pattern of initial increase followed by a de-cline.This indicates that the gap between the north and south regions first widened before narrowing, although a"fast in the south, slow in the north"pattern persists. These findings not only elucidate the dynamic characteristics of spatial differences in the digital economy but also provide a theoretical foundation and empirical evidence for pro-moting regional coordinated development and informing the formulation of differentiated policies.
