From Military Household to Imperial Teachers:the Cultural Construction of the Kuang Family in Jiaozhou
The Kuang family in Jiaozhou is a representative of the military households in Jiaodong.From the early Ming Dynasty to the end of the Qing Dynasty,the Kuang family had a total of eleven generations inheriting the marquis of Jiaozhou garrison,guarding against Japanese aggression,resisting violence,and cultivating farmland,making important contributions to the coastal defense,and economic development of Jiaozhou Bay.Since the Ming Chenghua Dynasty,the Kuang family has gradually developed from a migrated military household to a local cultural family,producing 11 successful Jinshi,such as Kuang Yizhi,Kuang Duo,Kuang Yannian,Kuang Lanxin,Kuang Yuan,achieved great success in the fields of Confucianism,literature,medicine,calligraphy and painting.Kuang Yuan,as the teacher of Emperor Xianfeng,the minister of duty,and the teacher of Luoyuan Academy,has become the pinnacle of family glory.During the Ming and Qing dynasties,the Kuang family not only completed the transformation of regional ownership and recognition of regional culture,but also became an important force in the construction of regional culture in Jiaozhou.
