The new English translation of Jin Yong's masterpiece MAF(martial arts fiction)Legend of the Condor Heroes was co-translated by Anna Holmwood and Zhang Jing(Gigi Chang),with each translating two volumes.Holmwood translates into her native language, while Zhang translates out of her native language. Are the styles of the"inward translation"and"outward translation"the same or similar for the same series of works of the same author? Is the any uniqueness in terms of linguistic features of the two?The present study examined the first and second volumes of the Legend of the Condor Heroes translated by Anna Holmwood and Zhang Jing respectively on the basis of a self-built corpus, investigating the style of the two texts through stylometric analysis based on the multidimensional analysis tool MAT.The results show that both texts belong to"General Narrative Exposition".25 linguistic features of the two are found to show significant difference, but the z scores of most of these features are less than 2,indicating that the two texts show no significant difference from the native non-translation texts, which means no deviation of genre occurs in the two texts. The result of our study indicates that the"outward translation"of the Chinese literary works could also achieve a good result.
