Resting-state magnetic resonance and clinical symptoms in depressed adult patients with non-suicidal self-injury
Objective To investigate the level of activation of brain functions and the level of expression of clinical symptoms in the resting state of major depressive disorder(MDD)accompanied by non-suicidal self-injurious(NSSI)behavior.Methods Nine patients with seizure-onset MDD with NSSI were selected and analyzed using the Amplitude of Low Frequency Oscillations based on Blood Oxygen Level Dependent(BOLD)signaling(ALFF)method to explore the spontaneous neural activity in the brains of MDD patients with NSSI and to explore the level of rumina-tion thinking,cognitive fusion,and positive attentional awareness in this group.Results Patients with MDD with NSSI had positive activation in the right precuneus,left inferior temporal gyrus,right middle temporal gyrus,left superior temporal gyrus,and right supramarginal gyrus at rest(T=4.500,P<0.001),and negative activation in the left middle occipital gyrus,right dorsolateral superior frontal gyrus,and right insula(t=4.500,P<0.001).There was a significant correlation between rumination and cognitive integration(r=0.907,P<0.001),and level of positive attentional aware-ness(r=-0.722,P<0.05).Conclusions Patients with MDD with NSSI may have abnormal spontaneous brain activity in the resting state.
