Research on female science popularizers in the new media era:A case study of Gezhi Science Communication Award and the Bilibili Account of"Gezhilundao Forum of Chinese Academy of Sciences"
With new media becoming the main platform for science popularization,more women are entering this field.Female science popularization video creators,who are at the intersection of gender,media,and science,have a significant impact on women's perception of engaging in technology-related careers and the sense of achievement gained.Taking the first and the second Gezhi Science Communication Award and the Bilibili Account of"Gezhilundao Forum of Chinese Academy of Sciences"as examples,it was found that female creators and their works account for less than men in terms of quantity and quality;female creators used less cooperative resources than men,and they had less influence in science popularization;female creators lacked opportunities for self-expression and self-display.In the light of these problems,it is proposed to strengthen science general education and pay attentions to scientific culture,support female creators and female scientists to participate in science popularization activities,build the communication and cooperation platform for female creators,increase the proportion of female judges in science popularization awards,cultivate female science popularization talents and break gender stereotypes to promote the emergence of female creators and female scientists.
