In the era of globalization,China actively attracts overseas high-level scientific and technological talents from abroad. However, universities face numerous challenges in the introduction and management of overseas talents. This research explored the motivations and development problems of overseas talent flowing into universities through a mixed-method approach, comparing the differences between returned overseas and foreign talents. The research found that family and macro-environment had a significant impact on the return of overseas talents, while individual development needs and economic and institutional factors were the key to attracting foreign talents.Scientific research and academic issues were the core constraints on the development of overseas talents in universities, closely related to personal development and policy environment.Foreign restrictions and problems with reputation promotion affected the willingness of talents to come to China, while the pandemic, integration, and promotion difficulties were the main reasons for departure.Based on these conclusions, this study proposed suggestions to optimize the introduction and management of overseas talents in universities.
