As an effective risk protection mechanism, agricultural insurance not only has the role of diversifying business risks but also is an important starting point for green development.Based on panel data spanning 31 regions across China(except Hong Kong,Macao, and Taiwan)from 2008 to 2021 to investigate whether agricultural insurance can facilitate the agricultural carbon productivity. The results indicate a significant positive association between agricultural insurance development and agricultural carbon productivity. In particular,a deviation increase of one standard in the level of agricultural insurance development corresponds to an increase of around 1108 yuan per ton in ag-ricultural carbon productivity.Mechanistically,it primarily boosts agricultural carbon productivity through agricultural technology progress. However, the agglomeration channel within the agricultural industry has not been tested.Further analysis reveals that there are regional disparities and varia-tions in policy, alongside spatial spillover effects, regarding the influence of agricultural insurance on carbon productivity. These conclusions enrich the refinement of China's agricultural insurance system and reinforce the relevant studies on the positive externality of the agricultural insurance en-vironment,while also providing important theoretical references for enhancing China's agricultural carbon productivity.
