Board Gender Diversity,Green Technology Innovation,and Corporate Green Transformation
Board gender diversity stands as a pivotal aspect of modem corporate governance,increasingly prized by both domestic and international stakeholders.Against the backdrop of the imperative for green transformation,this study delves into the influence of board gender diversity on driving green technology innovation within A-share listed compa-nies in China.Our findings underscore a significant positive correlation between heightened levels of board gender diver-sity and increased output in green technology innovation within enterprises.Notably,these results withstand rigorous scrutiny,including leveraging the two-child policy as a natural experiment and employing instrumental variables to ad-dress endogeneity concerns.Further mechanistic analyses illuminate the pathways through which board gender diversity facilitates advancements in green technology innovation.Specifically,it directs organizational attention toward environ-mental imperatives,fosters the implementation of CEO long-term incentive plans,and nurtures an environment condu-cive to innovation.Moreover,we observe that the impact of board gender diversity on green technology innovation is amplified in regions characterized by greater gender equality and within family-owned firms.Conversely,the influence of board gender diversity appears less pronounced in the Midwest and among individuals with singular career experi-ences.Additionally,our study reveals that by catalyzing green technology innovation,board gender diversity contributes to reductions in pollution emissions and enhances overall corporate environmental performance,thereby driving forward the agenda of corporate green transformation.This research offers invaluable insights into elucidating the mechanisms underlying the impact of board gender diversity and advocates for its role in fostering both green technology innovation and broader corporate sustainability initiatives.
