The term"education for the elderly"has been defined differently in different historical periods in different countries.At present,the understanding of this concept mainly focuses on four levels:object,essence,purpose and practice.Education for the elderly mainly takes the elderly population as the object of education.According to the characteristics of the elderly,it aims to exert educational influence on the elderly recognized by the society in an organized way,so as to meet the spiritual and cultural needs of the elderly,help the elderly adapt to social development,and realize the health education activities of the life value of the elderly.Education for the elderly is characterized by the subjectivity of the object of education,the duality of the purpose of education,the richness of the content of education,the diversity of the way of education,and the welfare of the education.Edu-cation for the elderly is not only related to but also different from such related concepts as lifelong education,adult education,continuing education,community education,social education,vocational education,family education,leisure education,and u-niversity for the elderly.
