Explicit and Implicit Shame Among Parents of Children with Special Needs
Shame is a negative self-directed emotion, which can affect the physical and mental health of an individual. To explore the status quo of the parents of children with special needs, this study applied Experience of Shame Scale(ESS)and Implicit Association Test(I AT).The results show that parents of children with special needs have a lower level of explicit shame and tend to think that they are not ashamed and that there exists no im-plicit shame.Future research could further explore the protective factors of shame among parents of children with special needs.
