KMT South Taihang Guerrilla Zone from 1940 to 1943
The 24th Kuomintang Group Army entered the South Taihang Mountains at the beginning of 1940.During the period when it stayed there, this unit conducted guerrilla attacks on enemy transport, and carried out local construction which later withstood many"mopping-up"operations from Japanese troops. However, the three forces under the jurisdiction of the 24th Group Army went their own ways in the South Taihang area. The guerrilla area north of the Yellow River was still under the control of the First Theatre Command in Henan, and its logistics support was weakened and obstructed by the Yellow River. After the Japanese army launched a large-scale attack in April 1943,the South Taihang guerrilla zone beyond the river was occupied by the Japanese invaders, and the KMT-led War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression behind the enemy lines in North China met complete failure. Thus, the KMT lost its bridgehead in North China, which had a far-reaching impact.
