Origin and Development of Modernization of Military Logistics Education in China——A Discussion on Central Military Logistics Educational Institutions in Late Qing Dynasty and Early Republic of China
The modernization of military logistics education was the main way to realize the independence of national mil-itary supplies since the late Qing Dynasty. In 1903,the Qing authorities began the Management Section in Beiyang Army Ac-celerated School in Baoding, which became the modernization prelude of military logistics education. After that, the govern-ment proceeded to promote education in military logistics through schools in Baoding like Army Ordnance Manager Normal School,Army Manager School and Army Quartermaster School. After the Revolution of 1911,the Nanjing Provisional Govern-ment founded the Central Army Quartermaster School, initiating two models of military logistics education:cadet class and student class. After the establishment of the Northern and Southern Republics,Zhang Xuzhong moved to Beijing with the Cen-tral Army Quartermaster School and served as the principal of the Beijing Army Quartermaster School,of which he was the founder.Beijing Army Quartermaster School cultivated a large number of professional logistics talents for the army and the na-vy by improving the education system, enforcing the school disciplines, and taking multiple measures in recruitment and per-sonnel training. In the 1920s,due to the increasing financial difficulties of the Beijing government and the changing needs of the authorities,Zhang amended the Regulations of Army Quartermaster School, adjusted ideas for schooling and promoted the transformation of school running,so that the Army Quartermaster School continued to operate in the turbulent years and the modernization of military quartermaster education was able to carry on.
