Dual Strategic Value:Reanalysis of KMT's Withdrawal from Qingdao in 1949
In 1949,the trend of the KMT rout was getting increasingly obvious, and Qingdao,a military stronghold in North China, became an isolated city for the KMT army in Shandong province. After two rounds of planning, the KMT mili-tary eventually succeeded in withdrawing the Qingdao garrison to Taiwan, which became one of the few examples of suc-cessful withdrawal of the KMT army in the period of Liberation War.The military withdrawal from Qingdao had the dual strategic value of"military and diplomatic ones".On the one hand,it demonstrated the survival of the KMT's military stra-tegic power in the north of the Yangtze River;on the other hand,it was the weight of Sino-US game and the indicator of Si-no-US relations.
