The Revolution of Differentiated Socialist Space:Moving from the Rule of Abstract Space to the Generation of Historical Space
In the perspective of Marxist historical materialism, the analysis of social space carries political transformative dimensions. The reproduction of capitalist social relations has transformed traditional physical space production into abstract capitalist space.Space,as fixed capital,is continuously integrated into the rules of capital accumulation, becoming a growth point for sustaining capitalist existence. However, the capitalization of space production also leads to the spatialization of contradictions within the capitalist mode of production, with the production of abstract capitalist space continuously reproducing the antagonism between labor and capital in space. The spatial contradictions arising from the practice of abstract space production, such as exchange value versus use value, totality versus fragmentation, center versus periphery, domination versus appropriation, point towards the destruction and demise of abstract capitalist space rule. The reproduction of differentiated contradictory space holds dialectical significance,as it provides dynamic factors that continually compel capitalism to adjust and dismantle itself, generating possibilities for historical transformation. In reality, concrete historical space is inherently related to contingencies, changes, and generations, and cannot be entirely reduced to the essential rules of social relations. In this sense, the reproduction of differentiated contradictory space precisely provides possibilities for dismantling the rule of abstract capitalist space and pursuing differentiated socialist space, offering potential for future construction characterized by change and openness.
