On the Sacredness of the Yangtze River and Human Reverence
Reverence for nature is a manifestation of the Chinese nation's precocious ecological wisdom.In the current crisis of the"sick Yangtze River",reverence for the mother river has become a key link in readjusting the relationship between humans and nature as well as protecting the Yangtze River's ecology.Tracing back from the ancient concept of the unity of heaven and humanity to the contemporary re-awakening of reverence for the Yangtze River provides a new perspective on exploring the aesthetic spirit of Yangtze River culture.How to integrate ancient ecological wisdom with contemporary scientific theories,and how to inspire a widespread sense of reverence for the mother river,the Yangtze River,among people in the new era,has become the crux of current research on Yangtze River culture.This paper innovatively proposes the sacred category of the Yangtze River and profoundly expounds its cultural connotation of sacredness with the aid of classical Confucian philosophical resources.On this basis,it associates the sacredness of the Yangtze River with reverence,focusing on the complex emotional relationship between humansand the environment in Yangtze River culture.It emphasizes that the ethnic community's reverence for the sacredness of the Yangtze River is key to inheriting and shaping of Yangtze River culture and its contemporary ecological awareness.
