Four Dimensions of Critique on Emotional Capitalism
Emotional capitalism is characterized by the mutual shaping between emotions and economics, fundamentally based on emotional alienation, which manifests primarily in the domains of production, consumption, and social interaction. As emotions become increasingly commensurable and depersonalized, neoliberal politics begins to exploit emotions to promoteself-exploitation for enhanced productivity.Meanwhile, romance is increasingly defined and monopolized by consumption, and intimate relationships are being reshaped by algorithmic capitalism, resulting in their growing fluidity and instrumentalization. At its core, the subordination of emotions to capitalist logic represents a degradation and abandonment of essential human capacities. This holds significant theoretical value and practical implications for comprehending both the new forms of contemporary capitalism and the existential predicaments of human beings.
