Abstract
The rapid advancement of ChatGPT,an advanced language model,has garnered global attention and emerged as a focal point for transformation in various fields.This research focuses on exploring the application potential and challenges of ChatGPT in English education at Chinese universities.The study analyzes opportunities presented by ChatGPT,such as enhancing language learning outcomes,providing personalized guidance,and fostering increased student engagement.Simultaneously,it addresses potential academic and ethical concerns that may arise.The integration of artificial intelligence into education has a potential impact on the future development of English language education in Chinese universities.Through an in-depth study of the long-term effects of ChatGPT on students'English proficiency and its performance in real-life language use,this study endeavors to promote the effective integration of ChatGPT in English teaching and learning at Chinese universities and to shed light on its long-term development.
