The main preparation method of high-performance spherical metal powder for metal additive manufacturing is atomization.And the performance of the powder prepared by plasma atomization is relatively better,while its powder production rate is low.To solve this problem,a new type of arc melting plasma atomization(AMPA)device is developed by combining plasma atomization with wire arc spraying,aiming to improve the powder production rate while retaining the advantages of plasma atomization.The performance test of the plasma torch generator and the atomization test of 304 stainless steel and pure titanium wire are carried out.The test results show that the AMPA uses the high-temperature and high-speed plasma torch to break the molten metal,which ensures the superheat of the powder particles and has sufficient spheroidization and solidification time.This technology and foreign patented technology are compared and analyzed from the aspect of powder performance and powder production rate.It is confirmed that the powder production rate of this technology is 2-7 times higher than that of foreign patented technology under the same powder performance.
