The Development of a New Rail Intelligent Monitor for Rail Transit Wheelsets Based on Wheel-Rail Force Measurement
The wheel-rail force directly indicates the coupling condition between the vehicle and the track,as well as the degree of the wear and the tear on the wheels. The advancement of online measurement technology for wheel-rail force is essential to ensure train operation safety. This paper provides a brief overview of existing direct wheel-rail force measurement systems, summarizing their operational principles and limitations, and a novel intelligent maintenance monitoring system for railway wheels(RIM)is introduced through sensor structure design, data fusion algorithm development, and software processing system development.Based on the shear force measurement principle of wheel-rail force,a newly designed H-shaped shear force sensor array and the multi-channel signal reconstruction technique are used to continuously measure the wheel-rail force.Furthermore, the functional requirements such as wheel tread damage, vehicle off-load and overloading detection are fulfilled through the formulation of system test area layout, the proposed evaluation methods of detection functions and the construction of monitoring system network. The field measurement results show that no change is needed for the track structure in the system, and the disassembly and assembly are easy and quick, and the continuous overlapping acquisition of wheel-rail force signals in the measuring area is realized. This system eliminates the measurement discontinuities due to individual shear force measurement points, and provides an effective method for continuous online measurement of wheel-rail vertical force at meter level.
