Strengthening Language Knowledge:the Key to Cultivating Core Competencies in English Curriculum
The proposal of core competencies such as language ability,cultural awareness,thinking quality,and learning ability manifests a change of focus in English curriculum from the external"meaning of knowl-edge"to the internal"value of people",which has significant theoretical significance.However,the implementa-tion of core competencies should not only depend on strategies such as"activities","interaction","analysis",and"mind map".The effective implementation of these strategies precisely relies on a solid foundation of lan-guage knowledge.From both linguistic and pedagogical perspectives,language knowledge is the key to core competencies.Therefore,to cultivate students'core competencies,it is necessary to scientifically and reasonably teach language knowledge.
