In Search of Balance Between Digital and Paper Reading:Implications for Connected Reading
In the digital age, both digital and paper texts are important reading resources for students, and students'real reading includes both digital and paper reading. However,in the current educational environment, there are various conflicts between digital reading and paper reading. To find a balance between them,it is neces-sary to clarify the characteristics of contemporary students'reading practice. The theoretical framework of"Con-nected Reading"proposed by Turner et al.has pointed out the practical direction for us.The reading teaching practice designed on this basis shows that contemporary students tend to use digital media and read according to personal interests;most of them are willing to share reading content and are proficient in using digital media;and most of them are able to effectively manage attention during the reading process. In future teaching, students can be guided by creating reading discussion groups, providing diverse guidance on digital reading strategies,un-derstanding digital texts in a correct way,and designing reasonable task lists,so as to achieve a balance between digital and paper reading and develop authentic reading habits.
