On the Reasons for Localized Rural Teachers"Return to Hometown but Leave Again"——An Interpretation Based on ERG Theory
The phenomenon of localized rural teachers"returning to hometown but leave again"has be-come increasingly prominent. In order to clarify the dynamic transformation process and mechanism, qualitative interviews were conducted based on the ERG theory with 16 localized rural teachers. It was found that the initial motivation for returning to teach was the coexistence of multiple needs, such as having an"iron rice bowl",be-coming"staff working for the government","having parents nearby, not traveling far","aspiring to be a teach-er"and"building the hometown".With the increase of capital stock, individual needs have changed from the ba-sic level towards higher-level needs such as ensuring"family livelihood planning",seeking"a better life","peace and contentment education","in-depth interaction"with students'parents,"teaching authority","becom-ing a professional expert",and"serving as a new rural talent".However, due to the accumulated rural weakness and poor policy implementation, the higher-order demands cannot be satisfied and trigger their"leave again";the mechanism of"return hometown but leave again"is the limitation of demand upgrade, the cycle of demand frustration and the overall deficiencies.Based on the above mechanisms, this paper puts forward some counter-measures to meet the diverse needs of localized rural teachers.
