Parent and Teacher Autonomy Support,Student Learning Strategies,and Student Growth Mindset Development
Cultivating adolescents'growth mindset has been a worldwide important strategy and pathway for improving adolescents'core competencies in recent years.Based on a survey of 5,567 junior high school students in Jiangsu Province,this study investigated how parental autonomy support,teacher autonomy sup-port,and student learning strategies influence students'growth mindset.The findings reveal that parental au-tonomy support,teacher autonomy support,and learning strategies have a positive effect on students'growth mindset,with teacher autonomy support being the most crucial for the formation of such a mindset.Among learning strategies,the metacognitive strategy is more effective for the development of students'growth mind-set.The study also identifies that the marginal effects of teacher and parental autonomy support,as well as learning strategies,vary among students with different levels of thinking abilities;through the mediation of student learning strategies,both teacher and parental autonomy support can enhance the development of a growth mindset.The research recommends that parents should emphasize autonomy support for their chil-dren,teachers should explore the creation of an implicit growth-oriented cultural environment,and focus on the joint effect of family and school on enhancing the mindset development.
