Reconstructing Political Society:the Limited Moral Responsibility of Lockean Government and Its Goal of Prosperity
Locke's political theory is based on moral philosophy. He believes that the individual has complete moral responsibility in the state of nature, but only has limited moral responsibility after en-tering the political community. The guiding ideology running through this reasoning is"right leads to power",and in moral philosophy it is expressed that probable political power is based on inevitable moral rights. The emergence of this thought benefits from Locke's breaking of the isomorphic tradi-tion of"sociality"and"politics",and instead making a moralized understanding of sociality and a functional understanding of politics. Therefore, political freedom is regarded as the accidental limita-tion of moral freedom, which represents the pursuit of some common good.Property is the manifesta-tion of this contingency, and it is the product of the active externalization of individual reason and will,in which the individual becomes a moral subject.Based on this,Locke believes that the mission of the political community is to protect property rights and promote social prosperity.
