A New Field for Classical Chinese Literature Studies——Collection,Organization, and Research of Japanese Manuscripts of Chinese Literary Works
There are a large number of manuscripts in classical Chinese preserved outside of China, among which are either lost collected works of Chinese literature or have many differences from the extant versions. Therefore, literary manuscripts in classical Chinese outside of China can be regarded as a new field for classical Chinese literature studies, and the Japanese manuscripts of Chinese liter-ary works have the closest relationship with the study of classical Chinese literature.Japanese manu-scripts of Chinese literary works are collected in public libraries, university libraries, private librar-ies,temples,and individuals in Japan.Since the Edo period, scholars have paid attention to these ma-terials,which are included in series of books such as Isson Sosho,Guyi Congshu,Kyoto Tekoku-daigaku Bungakubu Kyushohon, etc. In recent years, the academic community has also carried on the collation and research of Japanese manuscripts of Chinese literary works, but there are still a lot of materials that have not been focused on.It is necessary to launch overall investigation, editing, and cataloging on Japanese manuscripts of Chinese literary works as soon as possible, and conduct a com-prehensive study of them from the perspectives of"East Asian Sinographic manuscripts"and book history. At the same time,in-depth research should be conducted on the so-called Shomono manu-scripts of Chinese literary works during the medieval period of Japan.
