The Underwater Noise Suppression via Frosted Glass Filter Inducing Show Curtain Effect
The handy and economical way of suppressing the underwater noise via the frosted glass filter inducing show curtain effect is theoretically proposed and experimentally demonstrated. In the experiment, the water contained in the flume is deliberately polluted by the blue ink to add the randomly distributed scattering particulates and the peristaltic pump is applied to produce the turbulence noise. The expanded light beam carrying the picture message passes through the water-filled flume and enters into the CCD for recording the image. The comparison results show that the visibility of recorded image can be greatly improved by inserting the frosted glass filter since it acts as a spa-tial low-pass filter. The image processing consequences with frosted glass filter inserted by means of LoG algorithm and artificial intelligence algorithm are also superior to those of the case with no frosted glass filter. Our underwater noise suppression method can have potential applications in the resource exploration and seabed archaeology.
