The coupling coordination model is used to explore the relationship between new urbanization and the level of common prosperity in the urban agglomerations along the middle reaches of the Yangtze River from 2009 to 2021.Additionally,the geographically weighted regression(GWR)model is utilized to analyze influencing factors. The findings are as follows. The level of common prosperity in the urban agglomerations along the middle reaches of the Yangtze River shows a fluctuating upward trend, with the Wuhan metropolitan area and the Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan urban agglomeration outperforming other regions within the cluster. On the other hand, the new urbaniza-tion index generally exhibits linear growth, with spatial"polarization"being significant in 2009,2013 and 2017,and the gap between the two poles narrowing in 2021.The coupling coordination level between new urbanization and common prosperity also shows a fluctuating upward trend, with Changsha and Wuhan being the highest ranked, situated at a stage of close coordination. The GWR model results indicate that factors such as consumption, industrial structure, administrative policies, technological innovation, and environmental regulation exhibit significant spatial and temporal differences. The impact intensity and direction of fluctuation of these factors vary slightly over different time periods.Among them, industrial structure, consumption, and environmental regulation all have a significant positive impact, while the positive influence of administrative policies and technological innovation is somewhat weaker, and there are obvious differences in the main driving forces between regions.
