Influence of early weight-bearing exercise on the progression of osteoporosis after hip fracture in the elderly
Objective To research the effect of early weight-bearing exercise on the progress of osteoporosis in elderly patients after hip fracture. Methods Sixty-three elderly patients with hip fracture who received surgical treatment in our hospital were in-cluded.Observation group and control group were set up according to the time of starting weight-bearing exercise, and the changes of bone mineral density of healthy hip joints were analyzed after surgery. The observation group began quantitative assisted single-leg standing training and weight-bearing walking exercise within 1 week after surgery, while the control group began quantitative assisted single-leg standing training and weight-bearing walking exercise 3 weeks after surgery. The bone mineral density(BMD)of the healthy hip joint of the two groups were detected and compared before surgery,6 weeks,12 weeks and 24 weeks after surgery. Results Bone mineral density(BMD)on the healthy side of the hip was decreased in both groups after surgery.Compared with the control group,BMD in the observation group decreased less in all time periods. In the observation group, the bone mineral density of the healthy hip joint reached the lowest value at the 12th week after surgery, which decreased by 0.8%on average. The bone mineral density of the control group was the lowest at 24 weeks after operation, which decreased by 3.14%on average.Bone miner-al density(BMD)of healthy hip was compared between the two groups,in which the femoral neck showed statistical differences be-tween the two groups at 6 weeks,12 weeks and 24 weeks after surgery(P<0.05),the intertrochanteric and hip sum showed statisti-cal differences between the two groups at 12 weeks and 24 weeks after surgery(P<0.05),and the Ward's triangle showed signifi-cant differences between the two groups at 24 weeks after surgery(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in BMD between the observation group and the preoperative group at 24 weeks after operation(P>0.05).Conclusion Early weight-bearing exercise can delay the decrease of bone mineral density of the contralateral hip, delay the progress of osteoporosis, and is conducive to the pre-vention of secondary fractures.
