Isolation, identification and antimicrobial drug resistance analyses of Escherichia coli from pigeons in some areas of Jiangxi Province
[Objective]This study was conducted to study the resistance of pigeon Escherichia coli to common antibacterial drugs.[Method]125 anal swabs from pigeons with diarrhea symptoms were collected from five meat pigeon farms in Gao'an City,Jiangxi Province. After the samples were treated, the bacteria were isolated by plate streaking method. After multiple purification, the strains were identified and the drug sensitivity test for 20 common antibiotics was carried out. After data statistics, drug sensitivity analysis,multi-drug resistance analysis and drug resistance spectrum analysis were carried out.[Result]The results showed that 102 strains of Escherichia coli were isolated, and the positive rate was 84.30%.And the drug resistance rate to tetracycline(97.06%)was the highest, followed by that of doxycycline(95.10%),ampicillin(92.16%),amoxicillin(90.20%),streptomycin(86.27%),cotrimoxazole(82.35%),chloramphenicol(73.53%),florfenicol(72.55%),nalidixic acid(71.57%),cefotaxime(63.73%),and that of others were below 60%.The isolated Escherichia coli were highly sensitive to gentamicin(44.11%),cefazolin(52.94%),ceftriaxone(59.80%),amikacin(48.04%)and aztreonam(52.94%).The isolated Escherichia coli showed different degrees of multi-drug resistance, all of which were more than 4 times, mainly 10-15 times, and the rate of multi-drug resistance reached 100%.Especially,92 drug resistance spectrum combinations were produced.[Conclusion]The incidence of pigeon colibacillosis in this area is high, and its resistance to common antibiotics has been quite serious.
