Preliminary investigation report on the resources of predatory ladybugs in walnut forests of Yunnan Province
[Objective]This study was conducted to clarify the dominant species of predatory ladybugs in walnut forests in Yunnan, and contribute to the construction of a green prevention and control system for walnut pests.[Method]The species and dominant populations of predatory ladybugs in walnut forests were investigated from July to August 2023,in the fine fragrant walnut cultivation area of Changning County,Yunnan Province, adopting a series of methods such as field inspection, specimen collection, rearing observation, species identification, dominance analysis, and predation ability analysis.[Result]The results showed that there were nine species of predatory ladybugs in walnut forests, namely Harmonia eucharis,Calvia muiri,Menochilus sexmaculata,Harmonia axyridis,Harmonia sedecimnotata,Coelophora saucia,Lemnia lushuiensis,Oenopia sauzeti, and Chilocorus bijugus.Among them,H.eucharis and C.muiri were the dominant species, with dominance indices of 0.374 2 and 0.367 3,respectively.The field predation frequencies of their larvae were 51.35%and 80.77%,respectively,and that of adults were 14.55%and 31.48%,respectively.[Conclusion]H.eucharis and C.muiri are the dominant populations of predatory ladybugs in walnut forests in Yunnan. They have potential for field pest control through predation, and so their protection and utilization should be strengthened.
