A study on the population dynamics of Monochamus alternatus in Fu'an City,Fujian Province
[Objective]This article aims to understand the population density and occurrence dynamics of Monochamus alternatus in the forest of Fu'an City by adult trapping for three consecutive years, providing a basis for scientific development of control strategies for pine wilt disease.[Method]M.alternatus were trapped and killed by means of continuous installation of traps.[Result]The results showed that from 2020 to 2022,the average number in per trap in Fu'an City was 234.1,260.8,and 201.3,respectively,indicating the overall population density of M.alternatus in the forest was relatively stable.Starting from April each year, adults of M.alternatus could be trapped, and then the number rapidly increased. The peak of trapping was reached in July to August. In July(2020-2022),the average number per trap was 76.7,85.5,and 40.0,respectively.After September, the number of traps decreased.[Conclusion]The emergence period of Monochamus alternatus adults in the pine forest of Fu'an City begins in April every year, and the emergence period is June-September,with the trapping amount accounting for 86.5%of the annual total. The adoption of continuous installation of traps to trap and kill M.alternatus has resulted in a generally stable population in the forest, which is beneficial for preventing and controlling the spread of Bursaphelenchus xylophilus.
