Effective State Intervention Promotes Teacher Professionalization in China:The Theoretical Model and Empirical Examination
The teacher education system with Chinese characteristics serving as an important carrier,effective state intervention is the core feature of China's teacher professionalization.This study,based on representative local practice in the teacher education system with Chinese characteristics,and the TALIS(Teaching and Learning International Survey)2018 Shanghai data,explores the mechanisms for the channels through which the interventions by different types of countries affect teacher professionalization.The results show the following:The state's public value-oriented guidance for teacher professionalization,controlled teaching empowerment,and the promotion of teachers'professional learning closely coupled with their daily work can help improve teachers'professional autonomy,identity,efficacy and status,thus functioning significantly in professionalization under the state's public value-oriented guidance,empowerment,and basis consolidation in the process of teacher professionalization in China;and effective state intervention has a stable impact on the mechanism for the channels through which China's teacher professionalization is achieved,and teachers'professional autonomy and identity play an important role as a bridge in it.To consummate the teacher education system with Chinese characteristics,and cultivate a high-quality and professional teaching force,we need to continue to aim at teacher professionalization,adhere to the institutional advantages of effective state intervention,promote the integration of teachers'professional value and social public interests,unify external professional requirements and active internal majors,and build an open and collaborative professional learning system integrating pre-service teacher preparation and in-service teacher training.
