How Vocational Education Shapes the Image of Workers:Logical and Practice-Based Approaches
Workers are the unity of the spirit of work, the ability to work, and the image of workers, and the spirit of work and the ability to work are inherent representations of the image of workers. To build a skill-based society,we need knowledge-based workers, innovative workers, and skilled workers.Vocational education, which is a carrier to shape the images of different types of workers, can dig for gifted skills, disseminate skill-based culture, and change gifted skills and skill-based culture into workers'image capital.By dealing with the relationship between workers and society, and following the logic of skill accumulation and generation(where the images of workers are shaped by themselves)and the logic of social acceptance and integration(where the image of workers are shaped through other channels),vocational education creates a working paradigm:The images of workers derive from vocational education, but grow independent of vocational education, and integrate into social development with dignity. To create an image of skill-based social builders,we need to organize"in the vicinity of workers"a community composed of educational institutions, families, and society, and develop core elements used to shape the image of workers;reconstruct"a coherent self-identity"to help workers shift their roles from vocational school students to high-quality technical talents,to skilled workers, and to workers, successively;and view the shaping of the image of workers as a mechanism for cultural reproduction, and paint a social practice-based picture of the image of the workers.
