Origination and Development:A Probe into the Cultural Genes of Chinese Education
In the development of China's educational theory and practice,the genes of excellent traditional Chinese culture need to be used as the spiritual core,and their internal integration and holistic operation needs to be used as an academic framework.Based on the concept of the"harmony of man with nature,"and the concept of the"integration between man and culture"contained in the generative teaching-learning philosophy,a review of the cultural genes of Chinese education helps to find four types of categories:The origin-based category,which includes nature,rationality(rules)and man(existence based on things and social relationships),establishes the origin of man and education;the basic category,which includes life(growth,living)and instinct,establishes the legitimate basis for education to promote man's generation and development;the potential-based category,which includes honesty and virtue(beliefs and norms),constitutes man's inner potential,which is the rational basis for education to discover and cultivate human nature;and the operation-based category,which includes culture(knowledge,cultural generation,or ethics and aesthetics),learning(the practice of benevolence and rationality or rules),harmony(adaptation and balance),transformation(imitating nature to nurture and transform all things),and things(phenomena in nature,and the process and results of human actions),presents the unique thoughts and methods of Chinese education.The different types of cultural genes connect each other,and constitute a holistic structure integrating the inside and the outside.Their internal logic can be analyzed at four levels:In terms of rationality(rules),cultural genes such as nature,rationality(rules)and man form a whole and prove their existence and connotations with genes at other levels;in terms of law,cultural genes such as life(growth,living)and instinct manifest the genes at the level of rationality(rules),and basically support and normalize other genes;in terms of trends(orientations),cultural genes such as honesty and virtue(beliefs and norms)follow and respond to the genes at the levels of rationality(rules)and law,and promote and receive help from the development and precipitation of genes at the level of methodology;and in terms of methodology,cultural genes such as culture(knowledge,cultural generation,or ethics and aesthetics),learning(the practice of benevolence and rationality or rules),harmony(adaptation and balance),transformation(imitating nature to nurture and transform all things),and things(phenomena in nature,and the process and results of human actions)showcase and respond to the genes at the levels of rationality(rules),law and trends(orientations),and constitute the basis of the general methodology of Chinese education.
