The Evolution of Core Topics in International Moral Education Research——Based on the Natural Language Processing of the Journal of Moral Education
Since the 1970s,the academic history of the development of international moral education has reflected not only the historical features of the changes in global moral education but also the changing understanding of the connotations of moral education. This study uses the BERT(bidirectional encoder representation from transformers)model to make an automated text analysis of the Journal of Moral Education,an authoritative global journal about moral education, and uses probability distributions to determine 21 core themes of moral education research, contained in four topics:the multi-dimensional shifts in important theories of moral education, the types of moral education in global changes, the deepening of moral education in educational space, and the shifts in the situational experience in moral education methods and evaluation.Based on this, the authors use visual tools to chart the historical trajectories of these core themes, explore the internal logic and external factors of their evolution mechanisms, and clarify the interaction between these themes and their compatibility with macro social trends. The findings show that moral education research tends to feature diversification,paradigm-based integration, and spatial extension. The application of natural language processing technology in moral education research implies that China's moral education research needs to broaden its content, and respond to the social needs under interdisciplinary integration.
