A Research Review on the Basic Problems of Supervisor-postgraduate Relationship:Nature,Type and Influencing Factors
The teacher-student relationship at universities is an important and much-needed research field,and the supervisor-postgraduate relationship,as the most typical relationship of teacher-student relationship at universities,has been widely recognized as an important topic relating to the quality of postgraduate education.Although considerable outcomes have been achieved in the exploration and research of the supervisor-postgraduate relationship in recent years,some fundamental issues in this field are still full of controversy and even conflict,lacking commonly agreed explanation.All this has brought further challenges to the promotion and in-depth study of the relationship.Therefore,the authors systematically review and theoretically evaluate the nature,characteristics,structure,types,influencing factors and other factors,and conclude that the supervisor-postgraduate relationship is a kind of"multidimensional structural relationship",which,under the influence of individual peculiarity,subject interaction and social environment,exhibits distinctive institutional,cultural and social construction attributes.Therefore,the authors suggest that,in the future study,it is necessary to continuously reflect on the contributions to knowledge from the existing research and increase theoretical dialogues and exchanges;Further promote the contextualization in the study of Chinese supervisor-postgraduate relationship and value the theoretical contributions from the study of the relationship in China;and use diversified and complex research techniques to promote and deepen the understanding of the study of the supervisor-postgraduate relationship.
