On Fostering Virtue through Education by Postgraduate Supervisors Related to Policy Guidance,Existing Problems,and Solutions
Postgraduates are the pioneering force in making China an innovation country.Postgraduate supervisors influence the growth direction and the character development of postgraduates.For making China strong in education in a speedy manner,the central government has issued some policies with clearly requirements on moral education by postgraduate supervisors,emphasizing that supervisors should not only impart professional knowledge in the cultivation of students,but also undertake the important tasks of shaping their moral character,values,and professional ethics.However,in practical work,there are still some problems in moral education by postgraduate supervisors.For instance,supervisors do not attach enough importance to the connotation of"achieving comprehensive personal development"in moral education.In addition,a gap exists between the expectations of postgraduates and the real level of their supervisors'ethics and conduct,and challenges exist in compatibility between the individualized development of the students and the value orientation of moral education.To address these problems,this paper proposes some systematic solutions,including those for improving the the responsibility performance of postgraduate supervisors in moral education and enhancing their ability in educating students;continuously improving teachers'ethics and conduct and rectifying misconduct and bad practice;and bettering the moral education mechanism for postgraduate education,so as to enhance the quality of postgraduate education.
