A Study of the Role of the Sense of Academic Meaning in the Building of Doctoral Students'Academic Identity
To promote the high-quality development of doctoral education,we need to pay more attention to the process of doctoral education and facilitate the transformation of doctoral students from learners to researchers.The construction of academic identity by doctoral students enables them to define themselves as researchers and to incorporate the role of researcher into their self-image.This study explores the connotations,sources,and the role of academic meaning in the construction of doctoral students'academic identity from a psychological perspective,and finds that the sense of academic significance is the sense of valuable and satisfaction that doctoral students feel in their research activities.Its connotation features include cognitive coherence,motivational purpose,and emotional significance.The acquired academic norms,recognition from others,satisfaction from interests and curiosity,and realization of self-identity that doctoral students experience through interaction with disciplinary and institutional communities are important sources of academic meaning.The sense of academic significance influences doctoral students'belief in academic value and plays a cognitive,motivational,and emotional linkage role in the construction of their academic identity.Valuing the cultivation of academic significance for doctoral students is conducive to promoting the construction of academic identity and the high-quality development of doctoral education.
