Can the digital economy improve residents'perceptions of equity? An empirical analysis based on the fifth CGGS data
Based on the matching the fifth China General Survey data(CGSS)and provincial statistics, this paper uses a panel fixed-effects model to mainly explore the impact and mechanism of the digital economy on residents'perception of fairness. It is found that digital economic development can signifi-cantly improve residents'perception of fairness, and the conclusions are robust.Mechanism analysis shows that digital economic development can help reduce socioeconomic inequality and thus improve resi-dents'perception of fairness. The digital economy has a more prominent effect on the perception of fair-ness of urban residents in the eastern and western regions, and helps to improve the perception of fair-ness of disadvantaged groups, with obvious social support effects. Therefore, the development of the digi-tal economy should be supported and guided in order to further develop the role of the digital economy in promoting social equity and justice.
