Study on Application and Performance of Green Steel Slag Asphalt Concrete in Expressways
Steel slag,a by-product of steelmaking,is typically treated as waste, yet it has distinct advantages, including angularity, high wear resistance, and excellent skid resistance, making it a suitable substitute for natural aggregates in road construction. The chemical composition and physical-mechanical properties of converter steel slag from a Fangchenggang steel plant are analyzed.Diabase of the same specification is replaced in equal volumes at ratios of 0%,20%,40%,60%,80%,and 100%to produce RAC-13C asphalt concrete with varying steel slag contents, and the impact on road performance is evaluated. In the Nanning Wuxu to Shangsi Expressway project,a test section of steel slag asphalt concrete surface layer is laid, and its in-situ performance is assessed. Results indicate that steel slag asphalt concrete exhibits superior high-temperature stability and skid resistance.Incorporating steel slag in asphalt concrete effectively addresses the shortage of high-quality road materials and reduces environmental pollution.
