On Historical Block Protection and Renewal Based on the Symbiosis Theory:Taking Shengli Street of Jingzhou City for example
Historical blocks are important historical and cultural heritage of China. They are generally located at prime areas of urban development.Urban construction started very late;and consciousness of historical block protection was absent in this process.Besides, the city was simply and roughly rebuilt in most cases. As a consequence, many cities may look the same and lack their own regional uniqueness. In this paper,Shengli Street in Shashi District of Jingzhou City was selected as the research object to explore how to achieve mutualistic symbiosis between historical block heritage and urban environment during urban renewal based on the symbiosis theory.Through redesign and renewal, the historical block can integrate into city life.Additionally, this study can also provide a theoretical foundation for protection and renewal of other historical blocks.
