The Mediating Role of Work Stress Coping Strategies on Mental Health Among Construction Industry Staff
As modern construction projects demand high performance standards, staff in the construction industry are confronted with increasing work stress, leading to suffering severe mental health issues. In response to it,effective stress coping strategies are necessary to enhance mental well-being.This paper first reviews the literature on work stress coping strategies and mental health, followed by a survey of construction industry staff using the Brief Coping Inventory(BCI)and the Depression Anxiety Stress Scales(DASS-21).Upon statistical analysis, survey results indicate that"problem-centered"coping strategies are the preferred approach for managing work stress among construction industry staff.Additionally, the study reveals that anxiety and despair are common among these employees. It is important to remember that"maladaptive"coping mechanisms worsen mental health problems,but"problem-centered"coping mechanisms greatly improve mental health levels. The results offer a useful theoretical framework for employees in the construction business to use when implementing successful coping strategies to enhance their mental well-being.
