The over 40-year journey and experience of Shenzhen's reform and opening-up have garnered attention both domestically and internationally.A series of landmark buildings in Shenzhen embody the events and historical value of this period,especially in terms of innovation in science and technology,leaving a positive legacy in the architectural and cultural heritage communities worldwide.2024 also marks the 40th anniversary of national economic and technological development zones.Based on research and identification work on Shenzhen's 20th-century architectural heritage and summarizing the city's role as a testing ground for reform and opening-up,this paper discusses various elements of planning and architecture from the perspective of value connotations to protection types.It proposes strategies for building a national historical and cultural city based on 20th-century architectural heritage projects and standards.Additionally,the paper suggests that Shenzhen should develop plans and top-level design documents for applying to become a national historical and cultural city and entering the national"tentative list"for World Heritage nomination.This undoubtedly offers guidance for advancing Chinese-style modernization nationwide.
