Evaluation of the Cultural Heritage Value of Ancient Towns in the South of Yangtze River Guided by Joint Application for World Heritage
The lack of unified evaluation standards, and separate governance of each ancient town resulted in the Ancient Waterfront Towns in the South of Yangtze River still not being included in the World Heritage List. The study constructs a heritage value evaluation system based on the cultural heritage characteristics of these towns and the value criteria of the world heritage.Based on the CRITIC weight method, the composite weights were calculated and imported into the 3D matrix model. These towns can be divided into eight intervals and three levels. The optimized application list contains 13 first-class ancient towns.Compared with the original list, the result increases 12%of Shanghai's towns, eliminates 10 towns with low value and adds 5 towns with outstanding value. These contribute to cross-regional synergy and a comprehensive interpretation of the overall value of these towns.
