School Building Renovation and Environmental Image Reconstruction in the Context of Historic District Symbiosis:A Case Study of Changjun Middle School
Historic districts are organic entities,and schools are important but heterogeneous components of these organisms.Campus renovation presents an opportunity for symbiosis between schools and their neighborhoods.This paper introduces the background and design features of the facade renovation of Changjun Middle School in Changsha,Hunan Province,China,and highlights how the project attempted to transform the building facade and group form into a dynamic composite space with agency in response to the complex built environment and inherent needs.The project also used the concept of symbiosis to guide the reconstruction of the campus environment and adjust the symbiotic relationships between buildings and their environment at different levels.
